Wolves vs Penguins
Game Overview:
Wolves vs Penguins is a strategic board game for two players.
Board and Setup:
The game is played on an 8x8 grid, similar to a chessboard. Each player starts with:
- 1 Wolf Chieftain (King)
- 2 Wolf Tracker Warriors (Knights)
- 2 Wolf Howling Scouts (Bishops)
- 2 Wolf Tundra Raiders (Rooks)
- 1 Wolf Queen
- 8 Wolf Cub Runners (Pawns)
For the Penguins, each player starts with:
- 1 Penguin Chieftain (King)
- 2 Penguin Warriors (Knights)
- 2 Penguin Wise Elders (Bishops)
- 2 Penguin Sentries (Rooks)
- 1 Penguin Empress
- 8 Penguin Scouts (Pawns)
Piece Movement and Capture:
- Wolf Tracker Warrior (Knight): Moves in an L-shape, jumping over one piece. Can move up to two squares vertically or horizontally.
- Wolf Howling Scout (Bishop): Can move any number of squares diagonally, but cannot jump over pieces.
- Wolf Tundra Raider (Rook): Can move any number of squares horizontally or vertically, but cannot jump over pieces.
- Wolf Queen: Combines the movement of a Bishop and Rook. Can slide any number of squares in any direction without jumping.
- Wolf Chieftain (King): Moves one square in any direction. Can castle once per game, moving two squares towards an unmoved Rook, with the Rook moving to the space between them.
- Wolf Cub Runner (Pawn): Moves forward one or two spaces on its first move, but only one space thereafter. Can capture diagonally forward by jumping over a single piece. Has en-passant rules where it can capture a pawn that moved two spaces on its first turn.
- Penguin Warrior (Knight), Penguin Wise Elder (Bishop), Penguin Sentry (Rook), and Penguin Empress: Move similarly to their Wolf counterparts.
- Penguin Scout (Pawn): Moves forward one or two spaces on the first move, but only one space thereafter. Can capture diagonally forward by jumping over a single piece. Has en-passant rules where it can capture a pawn that moved two spaces on its first turn.
Special Rules:
1. King Safety: The King cannot be left in an attacked position.
2. Promotion (Pawns): When a Wolf or Penguin Pawn reaches the opposite side of the board, it is promoted to a Queen.
3. Castling: A Wolf or Penguin King can castle with its unmoved Rook by moving two squares towards the Rook and the Rook moving to the space between them. This can only happen once per game.
4. En-Passant: If a Pawn moves two spaces on its first move, an opposing Pawn can capture it as if it had moved one space.
Winning the Game:
The game ends when all characters (pieces) of one team are removed from the board. The remaining player wins the game.
Draw Rule:
If no pieces remain for both players, the game is a draw.
